About The Heysen Trail
South Australia's Heysen Trail is a 1,200 km walking trail that extends from Cape Jervis, on the rugged south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, to Parachilna Gorge, in the Flinders Ranges.

The Trail has been designed to cater for both the serious backpacker walking the complete trail, and for the day walker who might choose to do short walks along different sections of the trail.

The Heysen Trail passes through some of South Australia's most diverse and breathtaking landscapes, traversing coastal areas, native bushland, rugged gorges, pine forests and vineyards, as well as rich farmland and historic towns. The Trail takes you to some of the most scenic parts of the state including national parks, state forests and internationally acclaimed tourist destinations, including the Barossa Valley and the stunning Wilpena Pound. The southern section, from Cape Jervis to Spalding in the Mid North, is ideal for beginners and those with children. The northern section, from Spalding to Parachilna Gorge, is isolated and at time rugged, provides a rewarding challenge for experienced walkers.

I have had a keen interest in bushwalking and exploration from a young age. My Father took us to Papua New Guinea when 9 years old for 8 months, and because of him we regularly engaged in hikes around the Mt Lofty Ranges and the Southern Heysen Trail. I have hiked, sailed, surfed and fished many varied locations in Australia and abroad.

I have been a tour guide/driver around the Northern Flinders Ranges, and also Kangaroo Island, where we took 5 day 75km walking tours of Kangaroo Island’s South/Western end, (from West Bay To Kelly Hill Caves).

I have lived in the area for 30 years and have developed a lot of local knowledge of the area, including indigenous and western history, and interesting information on the geology, flora and fauna of the area.

I have worked extensively in outdoor education, leading week-long bushwalking and canoeing tours, guided adventure tours of Kangaroo Island and Flinders Ranges.
"Growing up in the Blue Mountains I developed a love for walking in the bush from a young age. Through the hectic moments of life, I find my peace and my sanity by the ocean or in a sea of trees. I'd love to guide you into our beautiful wild landscapes so you too can enjoy."
